This trishaw uncle was fast asleep one hot afternoon when I passed by, his trishaw was parked just across the street from Raffles Hotel, where I would imagine he normally hustle tourists to ride with him. In the new iteration for the open call, I unconsciously end up giving him more hair :) and i think the work is improved in its shadow values. The work represented the relaxed time before CORONA pandemic, where we all could hangout without a mask. The good old days is no more.
The original drawing was when I first came back to Singapore from the year away Travel Sketching, and i wrote ‘Hokay Singapore, once again with feeling’, as my way of marking a new beginning for me and Tom, being back to live in Singapore.
Here you can see the original sketch and what I did to turn it into the original artwork and what the final banner looks like.
See if you can spot the banner when you're around Robertson Quay and Mohammed Sultan area. I am not sure how long it'll be up for, but catch it while it's hanging up the next month or so!
