Meet Thain Lin
Thainlin Tay sketches the city he lives in — its shophouses, temples, and colonial remnants, the places where Singapore's trading-port past pushes up against the present. Urban sketching is both practice and counterweight to a 30-year career leading IT for a large professional services firm.
He returned to art in 2015 after a long break, and has been building his practice steadily since — learning from mentors, sketching daily, seeking quiet improvement over time.
His kit is deliberately minimal: fountain pens with permanent ink, watercolours, cotton paper, a collapsible water cup, a few brushes, and a lightweight foldable stool. Everything fits in a bag, ready for the next corner of the city — or the next overseas trip.
Meet Jon Chan
Jonathan Chan is a Singapore-based painter, illustrator, and art educator. He holds a Diploma in Fine Art from LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts and a Master of Fine Art from RMIT, Melbourne, where his research project Dysfunction as an Inheritance explored dysfunctional behaviour through drawing and painting.
Jonathan has taught art at LaSalle College of the Arts and ITE, and maintains an active freelance practice spanning illustration, art direction, and fine art. His commercial work has taken him across publishing, advertising, and corporate contexts.
Beyond his formal practice, Jonathan is well known in Singapore's fan art community for his Star Wars illustrations — work that refuses to simply replicate the familiar, instead pushing characters and scenes into alternative possibilities, questioning canon with a painter's eye and a punk sensibility.
